Trichy: Rowdy shot at after he attacks cop, arrested
TRICHY: The Trichy district police opened fire at a rowdy and captured him near Salapatti foothills in Trichy after he attacked a cop on Friday night.
The accused was identified as K Alex, alias Alexander (29), of Kamarajapuram in Ariyamangalam, Trichy.
Police constable Rajesh Kumar was injured when he was attacked by Alex with a stone.
Alex was shot in the leg by inspector Muthaiyan of Thottiyam police, attached to the Trichy district police.
Police sources said that a team led by Muthaiyan rushed to the Salapatti foothills on the Sevanthipatti - Neelapatti road after receiving information that a person was hiding with a pistol.
As the police reached the spot, the rowdy threatened to throw a bomb at the police team. When the police proceeded further, he threw an object that hit the left shoulder of constable Rajesh. The police found it to be a stone, not a bomb, but the stone injured Rajesh. So, Muthaiyan retaliated and shot Alex in his left leg in self-defense.
In the attack, the rowdy sustained injuries, and the police captured him. He was rushed to the government hospital in Musiri, and constable Rajesh was taken to the government hospital in Thottiyam. Both have been transferred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.
