TRICHY: The Trichy city police has put to use the face recognition software (FRS) system, which would held in identifying criminals and track other suspects. The mobile application was dedicated to the state police by chief minister
M K Stalin, two days ago.
The application can also be used on the computer with internet connectivity. The purpose of the software is to identify a photograph of an individual with a data uploaded on the crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS) of
Tamil Nadu police.
The state crime records bureau (SCRB) of Tamil Nadu police has already uploaded 5.30 lakh photographs and profiles of criminals and anti-social elements in the state.
The system will help the police to check the criminal background of the person in question by using his or her photograph. The search using the photograph in the FRS will reveal the cases against the person in the police stations across the state.
Besides helping the police to track the criminals, the software can be used to verify the background of the suspects and to check if any warrant is pending against them. It will also help the police trace the missing people and ascertain the identity of the unidentified bodies. In case of a suspect involved in criminal cases in other police stations, the police can pass on the information.
