Trichy police prepare for Vinayaka Chathurthi

Trichy: Trichy police commissioner N Kamini on Wednesday chaired a meeting to discuss ways to conduct the Vinayaka Chathurthi festival in a peaceful way. Deputy commissioners of police, assistant commissioners, and inspectors of the police stations in the city limits participated in the meeting. The festival will be celebrated on September 18. The commissioner directed the assistant commissioners and the inspectors to hold meetings with organisers of the festival at the area-level on Friday and ensure the government guidelines are followed and law and order is maintained by protecting the religious harmony. The commissioner will also chair a meeting with the organisers in the coming days. Last year, police had allowed people to install Vinayaka idols in 230 places during the festival. The numbers would be same for this year too and idols would be immersed in the Cauvery near the Chinthamani area and the Cauvery bridge on September 20, said a police officer. At the meeting, the commissioner also discussed plans for stepping up security in sensitive places and the key junctions, and managing traffic movements without causing inconvenience to the people during the idols procession on September 20.
