TRICHY: With bike racing becoming a nuisance and threat to motorists, Trichy city police have decided to act tough against those performing stunts with their bikes on city roads. Trichy city police commissioner M Sathiya Priya said they have identified nine locations where youths with high-end bikes perform stunts.
They are - Mutharaiyar statue to MGR statue in Cantonment police station limits, MGR statue to court road in sessions court police station limits, check post No 2 to Manikandam police station main road (near college bus stops) in Edamalaipattipudhur station limits, Panchapur to Mathur ring road and Anna stadium to Jamal Mohammed college in KK Nagar police station limits, G corner helipad grounds in Golden Rock police station limits, Chennai bypass road to Sanjeevi Nagar in Fort police station limits, Cauvery bridge to check post 5 (Thiruvanaikovil trunk road) in Srirangam police station limits, Annamalai Nagar to Konakarai railway gate new road in Woraiyur police station limits and Kulumayee road in Government hospital police station limits.
The stretches has been turned into bike tracks for the youths to perform stunts including wheeling. There were incidences of racing between them on some of the stretches. They do away with registration number plates to hide their identity. The commissioner said they have identified the youths and boys involved in the stunts, most of whom were minors.
The commissioner said that police have imposed fines on them and plan to make people aware about the dangers at a meeting with residential associations.
