TRICHY: Community renovation and organisation advancement trust (Coroat), an NGO in Trichy, is offering psychology-cum-entrepreneurship training to transwomen in Trichy. The programme is aimed at strengthening them psychologically and giving them ideas for alternate source of income. Around 15 transwomen from Trichy are participating in the eight-day programme.
COROAT founder-trustee M Padmavathy said many trans-women are into prostitution and begging due to all-round discrimination. Titled She-in-He, participants in the programme are put through strength, weakness, opportunity and threat (SWOT) analysis to give them psychological counselling to understand issues. On entrepreneurship guidance, the programme will cover food processing, tailoring, driving and beautician. Subject experts will brief the participants about the scope and opportunities as well as challenges in the professions. The participants will be taken out on exposure visit for two days.
"If they choose one of the professions, we will arrange for skill development programmes being offered by the government," said Padmavathy adding that arrangements will be made for rendering financial assistance through government schemes.
