Trichy: The rule of the present dispensation in Tamil Nadu will come to an end within three weeks, after which the rule of the DMK-Congress alliance will flourish in the state, DMK president M Karunanidhi said in Trichy on Wednesday.
"The present chief minister considers it a sin to meet people and thinks that her decision is always right. Such a person is ruling the state," he said.
"How long will the rule last? The rule will come to an end within three weeks.
I am confident that our alliance will win," said the nonagenarian leader, addressing a rally on the G Corner grounds here.
The veteran leader wrapped up his speech in eight minutes, much to the disappointment of leaders and party cadres. A DMK functionary cited health reasons for the shorter speech.
It was at this venue that chief minister J Jayalalithaa addressed her election rally on April 23. Both meetings drew crowds of a similar size.
Referring to his affinity for Trichy, Karunanidhi said, "I am speaking in Trichy with the hope that the city will not disappoint me. The victory in Trichy is equivalent to a victory in the south pole."
"The DMK and the Congress joined hands to give a good life to the people. We will win in the war because you have already decided to choose the alliance. If you forget to discharge your duty, the future will be dark," said Karunanidhi.
The DMK leader will be spending the night at a private hotel in the city.
