Three persons, including a woman, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the mysterious death of a 22-year-old woman last week.

TRICHY: Three persons, including a woman, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the mysterious death of a 22-year-old woman last week.
The decapitated, headless body of the woman was found floating in a drainage sump at Vaamadam in Trichy on December 18. Search is still on to find her head. The deceased woman has identified as M Sasikala, a dalit girl from Sudhandhirapuram in Pudukkottai.
Those arrested for her death are C Saravanan alias Ranganathan, 28 of Marakkadai, his friend R Suresh alias Police Suresh, 30, P Shobana alias Sathya, 28 of Periya Milaguparai, a relative of the deceased woman.

Initially, police could not ascertain the identity of the body. Later, they found that a missing case on behalf of Sasikala was filed in K Puduppatti police in Pudukkottai. The case was registered after she went missing from home since December 10.
Police interrogated her father and found out that the unidentified body was that of Sasikala.
During investigation, it was found that Sasikala used to visit her relative Sathya's house in Trichy. Suresh, a friend of Sathya, also used to come to Sathya's house along with his friend Ranganathan. Sasikala and Rangathan were said to be in love.
Police said Ranganathan assured to marry her and advised her to elope with him. She left home and came to Sathya's house. Rangathan took her to Velankanni in a private car from Sathya's house, where the duo spent some time.

There, he took her four sovereigns of gold jewels and began ignoring here. He refused to marry her citing her 'caste'. After few days of heated arguments, Rangathan conspired with his friend Suresh and Sathya to kill Sasikala, police said.
As planned, Ranganathan and Suresh took Sasikala near Fort Railway station in Trichy on December 14. The duo strangulated her and threw her body under the bushes.
But they were scared that the police could catch them. On December 15, they returned to the spot and severed her head. They threw the body in the drainage and the head in the Uyyakondan River.
Based on the duo's information, Sathya was arrested.
On Tuesday, the police arrested them under section 302, 201, 379, 120 (b) of IPC r/w 3 (2) (1) of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act. They were all produced in the court in the evening on Tuesday.
