Trichy: The ruling AIADMK has no moral right to pay tributes to 'martyrs' of anti-Hindi agitations, including Kizhapazhavur Chinnasamy and Viralimalai Shanmugam, DMK treasurer MK Stalin said here on Monday.
While Chinnasamy immolated himself in front of the Trichy Junction Railway Station in 1960, Shanmugam died after consuming poison in 1965.
After paying tributes to 'Mozhipor Thiyagigal' at their memorial in the city, Stalin said, "The Semmozhi Park and Tholkapiar Park in Chennai were constructed by the previous DMK regime.
But the incumbent government has ruined the parks by not maintaining them properly. The AIADMK government promised to raise a statue for Tamil Thai (Mother Tamil) in Madurai at a cost of Rs 100 crore. It has not kept its promise on this. This government has no moral right to pay homage to martyrs."
Stalin said DMK was the only party working in the cause of Tamils unceasingly. Stalin also visited the house of the late M Sampooranam, who was the pioneer of 'Seerthirutha Kalyanam (self-respect)' in the state. Ninety-four-year old Samppornama died on January 14.
Stalin said the DMK does not bother about the recent exit polls and will carry on with its election works. On 'Namakku Naame' campaign, Stalin said only 16 assembly constituencies have to be covered. The campaign will end by February 12.
When asked whether DMDK will ally with the DMK for the assembly elections, Stalin said everyone will be informed if such a thing happens. Earlier, AIADMK cadres paid homage to the martyrs at the memorial of 'Mozhipor Thiyagigal'.
