TRICHY: The husband of a DMK woman union councillor was arrested for chasing three people with a machete and threatening them with dire consequences. The incident took place at a village near Mannachanallur in Trichy on Thursday.


The accused has been identified as S Vetrichelvan, 38, of South Thathamangalam near Mannachanallur. He is the husband of Nithya, 34, a union councillor of DMK in Mannachanallur union.

On Wednesday evening, Vetrichelvan was seen carrying a machete and chasing V Gunasekaran, 35, and two others on the road. The video of the incident was circulated on social media.

Going by the video, Vetrichelvan was hiding the machete under his legs. Police said that there was a disagreement between Vetrichelvan and Gunasekaran over real estate business dealing. It turned violent when Gunasekaran asked Vetrichelvan to return the money to him.

As Gunasekran and two others were involved in a heated argument with him, Vetrichelvan took the machete and started chasing them in full public view.

After the video went viral, police registered a case against Vetrichelvan based on a complaint from Gunasekaran.

Vetrichelvan was arrested on charges verbally abusing, voluntarily causing hurt and intimidating Gunasekaran, was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
