95-year-old Pattammal being handed over to the brothers at Jayankondam government hospital.
TRICHY: Two days after a 95-year-old woman was abandoned on the street by both her sons in Jayankondam, the Ariyalur police has instructed the sons to accommodate their aged mother. The two brothers who were reluctant to take responsibility in caring for their mother were made to submit a written assurance to the police by mentioning that they would not disown her again.

A 95-year-old Pattammal, who was rescued from the street outside the adjacently placed houses of brothers Shanmugam and Sadhasivam in Sengunthapuram, was admitted at Jayankondam government hospital on Thursday. Even on Friday night, both the brothers seemed adamant and unwilling to take their ailing mother back.
Meanwhile, after the intervention of Ariyalur superintendent of police V R Srinivasan, Jayankondam DSP and inspector K Rajmohan had a talk with the brothers persuading them to take their mother to their houses. “We told them that legal action will be initiated against them if the 95-year-old woman was found mistreated again. The woman was discharged from Jayankondam GH,” Inspector K Rajmohan said.
Police personnel on Saturday provided clothes and health supplements to the nonagenarian.
