Tamil Nadu: 2 killed as TNSTC bus rams truck near Perambalur

A driver and conductor employed with Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) were killed in a road accident as the state-owned bus rammed a metal rod-laden truck from behind on Trichy-Chennai national highway in Perambalur district on Saturday morning.

TRICHY: A driver and conductor employed with Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) were killed in a road accident as the state-owned bus rammed a metal rod-laden truck from behind on Trichy-Chennai national highway in Perambalur district on Saturday morning.
The Perambalur police have registered a case against the truck driver for carrying metal rods in a protruding manner.

Police identified the deceased as P Devendiran, 40, driver and S Murugan, conductor attached to TNSTC Dheeran Nagar depot in Trichy district.
The TNSTC bus was operated between Chennai and Trichy, while approaching Chinnar bridge in Perambalur district, the bus rammed the rear portion of a truck proceeding ahead. Both the driver and conductor succumbed on the spot.
The truck driver identified as P Balan fled the accident scene.
Around 11 passengers including one who sat just behind the driver’s seat were injured in the road accident.
Police said that the truck shifted from the fast lane to the slow lane on the NH. Meanwhile during the transition, the TNSTC bus rammed the rear of the truck. Police said that the bodies of the deceased bus crew were trapped in the vehicle and it took about an hour to retrieve the mortal remains. The Mangalamedu police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the absconding truck driver.
