Special cover released to mark 140 years of postcard

Trichy: The postal department released a special cover to mark with the 140th year of postcard during the world post week observed here on Wednesday.

A set of six octagonal commemorative postage stamps of 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which was released recently, was displayed in the national postal week celebrations that began Wednesday.

The event also aims at creating awareness on the role of the postal sector in the lives of people and business and its contribution to social and economic development. Bharathidasan University vice-chancellor P Manisankar released the special cover.

Students from Seva Sangam School participated in a procession organised from the school to Trichy Head Post office, carrying placards showcasing services rendered by postal services.

Postmaster general of central region, Trichy Sumathi Ravichandran, director of postal services, central region Trichy A Thomas Lourduraj, National College Principal R Sundararaman, proprietor of HOBEES Madhan and philatelist P Vijayakumar spoke.
