Rs 50 lakh unaccounted cash seized from kin of TVK’s Lalgudi candidate
Trichy: Election flying squads seized unaccounted cash of Rs 50 lakh from a residence near Lalgudi in Trichy district on Thursday night. The district officials received a tip that a large amount of money have been hoarded at the house of A Neelamegam, a relative of TVK's Lalgudi candidate Ku Pa Krishnan, at Malpavanur village.Subsequently, flying squad officials reached Neelamegam's house around 7pm on Thursday and began an inspection. During the search, they discovered a bag containing lakhs of rupees in one of the rooms. Since the flying squad is authorised to seize only up to Rs 10 lakh, officials immediately informed the income tax department. Subsequently, I-T officers from Trichy reached the spot along with the returning officer and assistant returning officer for the constituency. Officials questioned the family members, who gave contradictory answers. As they could not provide proper documents for confirming the source of the money, officials seized it. Further investigation is on.
