A team of DVAC officials led by inspector A Xavier Rani caught revenue inspector M Jothimani, 46, and VAO T Rajeswari, 42, red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Jothimani is from Nehru Ji Nagar in Manaparai and Rajeswari from Thavalaiveeranpatti. The duo sought money to clear a legal heir certificate to I Shivaji Ganesan, 43 of Thavalaiveeranpatti.

Shivaji, who is one of the five sons of I Nallammal, 80, applied at Manapparai taluk office for a legal heir certificate. Nallamma’s husband Isa Gowndar died 25 years ago.

Jothimani, who was the RI of V Periyapatti firka, had to clear a file relating to Shivaji’s certificate. She initially demanded Rs 25,000 from Shivaji for clearing the file. After bargaining, she settled for Rs 15,000.

Shivaji Ganesan, however, lodged a complaint with the DVAC police in Trichy on Friday. The sleuths laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed.
