Rallies, food donation mark Mahavir Jayanti celebrations
Trichy: Sri Swetambar Jain Sangh celebrated Mahavir Jayanti (Mahavir's birth anniversary) by taking out peace processions in Trichy on Tuesday. Around 200 Jain families from various parts of the city performed rituals to promote the preachings of Lord Mahavira, 24th and last of Tirthankara (supreme preacher). The procession involving multiple vehicles decorated with Jainism flags and carrying Mahavira idols was launched from the Jain temple at Nadu Gujili Street. It passed through Jaffer Shah Street, Big Kammala Street, Big Bazaar Street, and returned to the temple. People welcomed the procession by performing auspicious rituals. Organisers explained preachings of Lord Mahavira such as live and let live and non-violence. In the evening, special prayers were performed at the temple. Welfare associations conducted food donation programmes near Big Bazaar Street.
