Rains, gusty winds disrupt power supply in Trichy

Trichy: Several parts of the city experienced power outages after strong winds and rain lashed the district on Sunday night, disrupting electricity supply for more than an hour in multiple localities.According to residents, the weather changed abruptly around 8.45pm as dark clouds gathered over the city, followed by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning. The sudden spell of rain lasted for about an hour, bringing temporary relief from the rising heat over the past few days.However, the downpour also led to power disruptions across key areas. In some places, electricity supply was cut even before the rain intensified as a precautionary measure amid strong winds. Residents said power outages extended beyond an hour, causing inconvenience to households. In Srirangam, power supply remained disrupted even at 10.30pm, more than an hour after the rain had subsided. Similarly, parts of Palakarai and surrounding neighbourhoods reported prolonged outages during the late evening hours. In parts of Karumandpam, residents reported the power going off at least three times in short spells in the evening even before it rained. "Due to gusty winds, there were four transformers that were hit and I have just come from visiting those," a senior Tangedco official said.
