Police remove illegal air horns from 229 vehicles in 9 districts
Trichy: Central zone police have removed unauthorised air horns from 229 vehicles during inspections carried out in nine districts including Trichy.Based on instructions from IG V Balakrishnan, police personnel in Trichy, Pudukottai, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai conducted extensive vehicular checks on Saturday and Sunday. A total of 372 heavy vehicles were intercepted, 229 found using banned air horns. The air horns were confiscated.

Along with regional transport office (RTO) officials, police sensitised heavy vehicle drivers and operators to refrain from using high-decibel air horns that terrorise two-wheeler riders on highways. Similarly, to prevent accidents involving tractors in rural areas that have trailers without any rear lights and indicators, police affixed reflective stickers to 822 tractors in Trichy, Pudukottai and Perambalur districts. Police said synchronised inspections would continue in future.
