TRICHY: In order to strengthen surveillance in the city to prevent crimes,

city police have asked residents to link the
CCTV
cameras in their houses and commercial buildings to the modernized control room.
Stating that Trichy city police had made arrangements to monitor the houses, apartments, commercial buildings, hotels and hostels through CCTV surveillance from the control room, city police commissioner A Amalraj on Thursday said that anyone interested in connecting the CCTV of their buildings to the control room could approach the police.
Police have prescribed a CCTV of digital 4MP– POE IP Bullet Camera – IR (Night Vision) for the residents. Interested people could contact the inspector of intelligence section of Trichy city police, S Umashankar over phone (numbers 9498156300 and 0431-2331929) for further details.
“Our aim is to bring the city under the surveillance of about 2,000 cameras. So far, we have connected 800 cameras in public places and other areas. Now people can also join,” CoP Amalraj told TOI . CCTV surveillance has been put in place at central bus stand and Chathiram bus stand, which are vantage points to maintain law and order, prevent crimes and regulate traffic in the city.
Trichy city police control room at the Cantonment has also got a facelift with multiple screens at the control room to monitor the footage. Live footage of 200 cameras can be watched simultaneously on the screen. With the implementation of the scheme, the police said that in future the people can even ask the police to keep a close watch on their locked house through the CCTV cameras in case of the occupants leaving town.
The police said that bus stands, bus stops, airport and high-rise building should have CCTV cameras. High-rise buildings should have 2MP PTZ speed dome IR camera with NVR of 4TB memory with 30 days of backup. Commercial establishments and residences should have 4 MP fixed camera with IR and NVR of 4TB memory with 30 days backup.
