Trichy: Bus passengers have urged the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to resume the operations of super deluxe buses from Thuraiyur town in Trichy district to Chennai.
TNSTC had been operating four super deluxe buses from Thuraiyur and T Pettai towns to Chennai a few months ago before they were stopped one-by-one and replaced by normal mofussil fleets. “Push back seats with the 2+2 seating arrangement in the super deluxe fleets were comfortable for 6-7 hours of journey between Thuraiyur and Chennai compared to normal buses with the 3+2 seating arrangement. Travelling in mofussil buses is difficult for senior citizens and mothers with infants,” said N Saravanan, a road safety activist from Thuraiyur.
With Thuraiyur lacking rail connectivity, the TNSTC buses are the only public mode of transport for locals to reach the state capital. Srirangam railway station situated 39km from Thuraiyur is the nearest railway station. TNSTC officials said that they would consider resuming super deluxe bus services between Thuraiyur and Chennai.
