police on Saturday booked a case against 4 people including a woman doctor and a nurse for helping a couple in Perambalur to illegally adopt a month old
baby boy
.
The baby was rescued by the Perambalur District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) officials and has been accommodated in a recognised adoption centre in Ariyalur town. DCPU officials in late September 2019 have received a complaint about an alleged
illegal adoption
of a male baby in Perambalur. Based on the complaint, social workers with DCPU paid a visit to the house of
Senthilkumar
and
Sivaranjani near Perambalur during which the couple revealed that they adopted a baby boy through a private clinic in Perambalur town.
DCPU sources said that one Dr M Tamilarasi and nurse Selvi facilitated the illegal adoption of the month-old baby to an unwed 24-year-old mother. The unmarried woman has delivered the baby at Megala clinic of Dr M Tamilarasi in Perambalur. Since the unwed mother was not interested to accept the baby born on August 19, 2019, while the couple who are childless for over 15 years in desperate need of a baby to adopt, DCPU said that the nurse Selvi facilitated the illegal adoption.
