NTK alleges ‘biased’ policing in Karur
Karur: NTK Karur unit on Wednesday submitted a petition to the district collector alleging biased conduct by police officials in connection with a candidate meeting held earlier this month. It said they had obtained prior permission from Chinthamanipatti police on Mar 9 to organise a candidate introduction meeting near the Tharagampatti bus stand on Mar 15. The meeting commenced around 5pm as scheduled. However, party members alleged that police revoked the permission around 5.55pm citing enforcement of model code of conduct following announcement of election dates. During the event, a group of locals disrupted the meeting, damaged sound equipment, and forced it to halt, it said. NTK alleged that police failed to prevent the disruption and instead acted in a ‘high-handed and biased manner under pressure from ruling party members.'NTK sources said they have sought permission for another meeting at Puliyur on Saturday. "We are yet to get permission from Karur police," a source said.
