TRICHY: A Chennai-based boy who went missing at a temple festival held on the outskirts of Trichy was located by police on Sunday evening. The seven-year old was later handed over to his parents after he was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Monday.
The boy, who has been identified as M Pugazhendhi, is a resident of Neelangarai in Chennai.
He was found amid a festival crowd at Mangapatti, near Uppiliyapuram, by locals on Sunday. Enquiries with him revealed that his father Madhan Kumar is an auto-rickshaw driver staying at Neelangarai. Locals handed him over to the Uppiliyapuram police who, in turn, contacted Neelangarai police and asked them to verify his father's address.
On Sunday night, Uppliyapuram police handed him over to Child Line officials who, in turn, produced the boy before the CWC on Monday. Kumar also was summoned to appear before the CWC where he explained how the boy went missing. Subsequently, the CWC handed over Pugazhendhi to Kumar. Pugazhendhi went missing from Thammampatti village early on Sunday after his father had left him with his relatives as school holidays are on.
