Minor boy arrested for killing friend

Police on Thursday arrested a 16-year-old school dropout for strangling his friend to death over a quarrel about a damaged mobile phone.

Police said the victim, A Majid Mohammed,13, and the accused, both hailing from Muthupettai in Trichy district, were friends. The accused had allegedly damaged Majid’s phone and promised to get it repaired. However, he failed to keep his word.

On Wednesday evening, Majid reportedly confronted his friend over the issue following which a quarrel broke out. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly strangled Majid to death and escaped from the spot.

On information, Muthupettai police arrested the accused while he was on the way to Nagore to go to his relative's house.

Police have registered a case and further investigations are on, sources said.
