Mansoor Alikhan courts attention with track stunt in Lalgudi
Trichy: Actor-politician Mansoor Alikhan, contesting as an independent candidate from Lalgudi, enacted a dramatic scene on Tuesday by lying on railway tracks at Kallakudi Palanganatham station during his campaign. He said the act was a reenactment of former chief minister M Karunanidhi's 1953 anti-Hindi agitation at Kallakudi, when protesters opposed renaming the railway station as Dalmiapuram. Mansoor Alikhan, who heads the India Jananayaga Pulihal party, filed his nomination for the Lalgudi constituency on Monday and has been camping in the area, conducting door-to-door campaigns. While campaigning near the railway station, he lay on the tracks, prompting police to intervene and remove him. The actor said he was reminded of Karunanidhi's protest while passing through Kallakudi and chose to reenact it as part of his campaign outreach. MSID:: 129930128 413 |
