Man, son arrested in Rs 3crore land grabbing case

TRICHY: The city police

arrested

a

father

and his in connection with a Rs 3 crore worth land grabbing case, from Gandhi Nagar at Chinthamani here on Wednesday. According to police, the duo produced fake documents to take possession of the 66,000 sqft land in the absence of its real owner.


The accused were identified as M Pitchaimuthu, 58, a village assistant working with revenue department in

Srirangam

and his elder son P Mohanraj, 33, of Gandhi Nagar at Chinthamani in Trichy city. Police have launched a manhunt for another accused, P Udhayamoorthi, 28, younger son of Pitchaimuthu who is on the run.

Based on a complaint from L Viswanathan, of Thennur in the city, a team of police investigated the case and arrested the duo. Police lodged them in prison after producing them in judicial magistrate court on Tuesday. The complaint said the contentious land was located beside Karur bypass road and opposite a marriage hall in the city. It was bought from St Joseph's College administration by their ancestors and is now with Viswanathan’s ownership.

As Viswanathan and their family had been away from the city for few years, Pitchaimuthu registered the property in the names of his sons Mohanraj and Udhayamoorthi. The complaint said that they forged the documents to make the registration possible on September 21, 2015. However, the police came to know that the accused had forged the records with the revenue departments.
