Man run over by govt bus in bus stand

Trichy: A 42-year-old man was run over by a govt bus at Thuvarankurichi bus stand in Trichy district in the early hours of Thursday.The deceased, A Pandiyan, was a native of Kurumbapatti in Natham taluk of Dindigul district. According to police, the incident occurred around 5am when he was waiting to catch a bus to Dindigul. A govt town bus bound for Manapparai entered the stand from the depot to pick up passengers. The driver allegedly failed to notice Pandiyan and knocked him down, following which the bus ran over him. Pandiyan sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. On receiving information, Thuvarankurichi police rushed to the scene, retrieved the body and sent it to Manapparai govt hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
