Man attacks wife with sickle suspecting her of infedility

Trichy: A man attacked his wife with a sickle at their home on Friday, suspecting her of infidelity. The woman has been admitted in hospital with severe injuries.The accused, S Murali, 29, from Srirangam, had married the victim about four years ago following a period of courtship. The couple has a three-year-old daughter. Murali works as a load man at the Srirangam flower market.In recent times, Murali had grown increasingly suspicious of his wife's fidelity. Believing she was involved in an extramarital affair, he frequently argued with her.In the early hours of Friday, the couple got into a heated argument after Murali saw her looking at her phone. Enraged, he grabbed a sickle from the house and assaulted her.The woman sustained severe injuries to her head, fingers on her right hand, and her left hand. She was immediately admitted to Trichy govt hospital for treatment. Police arrested Murali soon after the incident.Based on the victim's complaint, Srirangam police registered a case against him. Murali was booked under sections 296(b), 109(1), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing hurt, attempt to murder, and criminal intimidation.He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in Trichy Central Prison for judicial custody.
