Trichy: A man sporting a helmet entered a house, sprinkled chilly powder on the lone woman inhabitant, beat her up and made away with her gold chain. The incident happened at Arunachala Nagar in Edamalaipatti Pudhur in the noon on Thursday. In yet another incident, cops received a complaint about break-in at a house with the thieves decamping with gold ornaments.
In the first incident, police said that 28-year-old Muthulakshmi was standing outside her house after her husband and children left for work and school respectively. A man wearing a helmet walked up to her and asked for drinking water. When she entered the house to fetch water, the man also slipped inside and followed her. When she turned back, he threw chilly powder on her face leaving her stunned for a few minutes. Left helpless, the woman screamed for help.
However, the robber allegedly beat her up and snatched her four sovereigns gold chain before escaping on his bike placed a few yards away. The Edamalaipattipudhur said that they had registered a case and were investigating the matter.
The other incident came to light at the residence of Balakrishnan, 61, at Koothoor near Mannachanallur on the outskirts of Trichy. The No 1 Tollgate police got information from Balakrishnan in the morning that burglars had gained entry into his house and decamped with 15 sovereign of gold ornaments besides silver articles from his house.
Balakrishnan and his two sons were employed in Gandhi market. So, they went for work on Wednesday night. The wife of one of the two sons was at home but she left for her relative’s house as she was afraid of staying alone.
According to the complaint, on returning home on Thursday morning, she found the main door of the house broken and things in the house scattered. Besides the incident, the area also witnessed two more burglary attempts on two houses where burglars unsuccessfully attempted to break the lock.
