Trichy: The govt has appointed Dr S Kumaravel, professor of orthopaedics at Thanjavur Govt Medical College, as the new dean of KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College (KAPVGMC), attached to MGMGH in Trichy. The appointment comes three months after the retirement of the previous dean Dr D Nehru on June 30. He is expected to assume office on October 7.
Vice-principal Dr A Arshiya Begum who was holding additional charge of dean of KAPVGMC, will continue her responsibilities until the new dean assumed charge. According to the health and family welfare department's govt order, govt medical colleges in Pudukottai and Karur have also received new deans following the transfer of Dr R Mani and retirement of Dr K Dhamodaran respectively.
Dr S Kalaivani, director and professor of the department of dermato venereo and leprosy at Madras Medical College (MMC) in Chennai, is the new dean of Pudukottai Govt Medical College. Dr V Lokanayaki, professor in the department of anatomy at Government Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai, has been appointed dean of Karur Govt Medical College. The appointments are part of those to 12 govt medical colleges and hospitals in
Tamil Nadu, filling vacancies that had persisted for five months.
