K Gopal, 40, of Thirunagar near Karumandapam lodged a police complaint saying that two men stole his laptop worth Rs 30,000 from his car while he was refuelling his vehicle at a petrol bunk near the Central bus stand on Sunday night. The Cantonment police registered a case on Monday.

In another incident, T Thulasiraman, 36, of Palpannaichery in Nagapattinam filed a complaint stating that he boarded a Coimbatore-bound bus at the Central bus stand on June 25 and placed a bag containing a laptop and Rs 80,000 on the luggage rack.

Later, he found that the bag was missing, even before the bus started moving. Police have registered a case.

The localities around Central bus stand have become easy targets for laptop thieves who break through the window panes of cars and lift laptops from buses.

On March 9, Trichy city police arrested a notorious thief R Muthuraman, 40, from Ramji Nagar in connection with the theft of 10 laptops.
