Kerala team wins nat’l-level debate at St Joseph’s College
Trichy: Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, in Kerala, emerged winners at the national-level debate conducted by the commerce department of St Joseph’s College here on Tuesday. A total of 41 teams from across the country participated in the debate on ‘Ethics in Contemporary Business-Myth or Reality’.The ‘postgraduate and research department of commerce’ of the college held the event as part of the diamond jubilee (1948-2023) celebrations of Shift I and golden jubilee (1973-2023) of Shift II. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from arts and science colleges, universities, engineering colleges and business schools from several states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Meghalaya participated.Edwin Joy and Mohammed Nadim Noushad from Amala Institute of Medical Sciences who came first won a cash prize of `50,000. Ameena Nousheen and Afnan Pasha from St Philomena’s College in Mysore secured second place and received a cash prize of ` 30,000. Two teams, Manasvi Sharma and Astha Gupta from XIME Bengaluru, and, Nikitha and Marwa Fathima from Cauvery College for Women in Trichy, bagged the third price of `10,000 each. A consolation prize of `5000 was given to Sudharsana Srinivasan and Aabhas Chauhan from Sacred Heart College, Kochi, in Kerala. Two moderators including Rev Dr Peter Francise adjudged the winners. St Joseph’s College principal M Arockiasamy Xavier and head of the department of commerce, F R Alexander Pravin Durai, gave away the prizes to the winning teams. The organizing secretary of the event, Rev M Berchmans, proposed a vote of thanks.
