Karunanidhi terms AIADMK's election victory a conspiracy

Trichy: Expressing his gratitude to the voters for his victory in Tiruvarur and the winning of 89 seats across the state, DMK president M Karunanidhi termed the victory of the AIADMK a conspiracy with the support of the prime minister.

"The effort of the AIADMK to defeat the DMK with the support of the central government and the prime minister proved to be success to some extent. The election commission of India also rendered injustice by supporting the AIADMK. They indulged in a conspiracy to suppress the growth of the Dravidan movement," said Karunanidhi at a meeting in Tiruvarur on Tuesday arranged to celebrate his 93rd birthday and to thank the voters.

Though he dragged the prime minister into his tirade, he did not name him. He also appealed to the high court and the Supreme Court to look into the 'conspiracy'.

Karunanidhi reached Tiruvarur by train in the morning and thanked the voters of his home constituency for making him win for the second consecutive time with a huge margin.

He welcomed the transfer of the cases on the seizure of Rs 570 crore in containers during the state assembly elections and on the death of woman DSP R Vishnupriya to the CBI.

The DMK president refused to consider his party's performance in the assembly elections a defeat. "The victory margin between us and the AIADMK was 1.1%. The people of Tamil committed a mistake of 1 %. So it was not a defeat. We lost the chance to win. We will bounce back," said Karunanidhi.

He exuded confidence that the thanksgiving meeting will become a platform for a grand function of their party.

The nonagenarian leader made the 28-minutes speech despite having a throat ailment.

Earlier, senior DMK leaders Durai Murugan, T R Baalu, Dayanidhi Maran, E V Velu, K Ponmudi and several others appreciated their leader for his successful stride in electoral politics while mentioning his several efforts for the development of the backward community and scheduled caste people.
