IPS officer demands legal apology from Seeman
Trichy: Trichy superintendent of police Dr V Varun Kumar on Monday demanded an apology from NTK chief coordinator Seeman in court for the defamatory remarks of his party cadres against him and his family members."He must follow proper legal procedures and seek pardon in court. Only then will I reconsider my stance," the SP told reporters on Trichy court premises on Monday. Kumar's statement follows his testimony before the Judicial Magistrate Court IV in Trichy regarding the criminal defamatory suit filed against Seeman demanding removal of defamatory messages against him and his family members from social media, and Rs 2 crore compensation for causing mental distress. The judge recorded his testimony and adjourned the case to January 7.Varun Kumar said he intends to file a civil case against Seeman next, and would pursue these cases even after his retirement. On the reason for NTK's animosity towards him, Varun Kumar said it all began with the arrest of party functionary ‘Sattai' Duraimurugan for his defamatory remarks resulting in law and order issue when he was SP in Tiruvallur district in 2021.Varun Kumar accused Seeman of publicly making caste-based and derogatory comments about him even as members of NTK posted vulgar content online. He said Seeman failed to condemn such actions. Varun Kumar said the case was filed in his personal capacity and he had informed his superiors about it in writing. Meanwhile, Varun Kumar has been promoted as DIG in charge of Trichy range.
