Girl immolated self after scoring less

TRICHY: Dejected over scoring less in class X board examination, a 15-year-old

died after immolating herself at home near

Thiruverumbur

on Monday.


R Indumathi, from Thiruverumbur, a student of class X in a nearby government school, was expecting over 400 marks. Raised by single parent, the girl younger among the two daughters of Raj Kumar - running a bicycle repair shop - was dejected after checking her result on Monday. She had scored 321 out of 500.

Indumathi poured

kerosene

and immolated self when she was alone at home in the morning, said Thoruverumbur police. She was brought to the government hospital in Trichy with 90% burn injuries. She stopped responding to treatment and died in the evening.

In another unrelated incident, a student of class X drowned in Mukkomabu

dam

on Sunday evening, along with two of her cousins. She had gone to Mukkombu dam along with her friends to take a dip in the Cauvery.

Kiruthiga’s body was recovered by the fire and rescue service personnel. Her cousins Harihara Deepak, 8, and Dharan 17, died on the way to the hospital.
