Trichy: Trichy district police arrested five people for assaulting and threatening four guest workers in Jambunathapuram on the outskirts of Trichy on Monday. Jambunathapuram police arrested A Elamurugu, A Kubendran, S Jeeva, C Jeyakumar and one more person from Thiruthalaiyur near Musiri.
The injured workers were J Sunil Kumar, 36, K Rahul, 23, P Naresh, 32, and P Paruthanath, all from Pasathi district in Uttar Pradesh.
The workers have been staying at a rental house in Kannanur and were involved in laying tiles at new construction sites. On Sunday night, they were consuming liquor at Sivan temple street to celebrate the weekend when the accused visited a marriage hall in the area. Police said the accused were irritated over guest workers rejoicing.
When the workers were returning to their room, the accused attacked Sunil and the three others with wooden logs before fleeing. TNN
