Eye donation fortnight at MGMGH

Trichy: The department of ophthalmology of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) attached to KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College (KAPVGMC) observed national eye donation fortnight on Wednesday.Dean Dr D Nehru flagged off the rally on the GH campus. More than 100 MBBS students from the college took part in the rally, with a message about the need for donating eyes. The head of the department of Ophthalmology, Dr P Parthiban, organised an exhibition on eye donation and other ophthalmology-related issues on the campus. He said that a lot of patients need cornea. However, eye donation from the deceased is much less because of very low awareness, religious beliefs, and wrong notions about eye donation.In MGMGH, the ophthalmologists have performed 14 keratoplasties in the current year including two last August, said Dr Parthiban adding that nine pairs of corneas have been enucleated during the period. tnn

Differently abled people take part in rally for eye donation

Differently-abled individuals participated in a 2,000km motor rally in Chennai to raise awareness for eye donation and eye care. The rally, organized by Lions International District 324 K, lasted for 15 days and covered several cities in Tamil Nadu. Participants carried banners and distributed car and autorickshaw stickers to highlight the importance of eye donation. The event concluded with a valedictory function attended by Gagandeep Singh Bedi, the state principal secretary of health and family welfare, who emphasized the significance of eye donation.

Students run to support eye donation

Over 1,000 students participated in the Blindfolded Run for Vision programme in Ranchi to promote eye donation. The event was inaugurated by Governor C P Radhakrishnan, health minister Banna Gupta, and MP Sanjay Seth. Gupta emphasized the need for eye banks to coordinate their efforts to enhance the state's national standing in eye donation.

Sankara Nethralaya walks for eye donation

The C U Shah Eye Bank of Sankara Nethralaya organized activities in Chennai to raise awareness about the importance of eye donation during the Eye Donation Fortnight. They held events at schools, hospitals, and corporate houses to encourage people to pledge their eyes after death. An awareness rally was also held at Elliots Beach, which was attended by Justice S Jagadeesan and Dr Vaneeta Agarwal.
