Eight drug addicts cum peddlers arrested in Trichy
TRICHY: The Trichy district police arrested eight drug addicts cum peddlers in Kollidam area in Trichy and seized methamphetamine and electronic gadgets from their possession on Thursday.
A special team from the Kollidam police, attached to Trichy district police, arrested R Manikandan, 23, of Thanjavur, S Siju, 33, of Palakkad in Kerala, S Balasubramanian, 38, of Chennai, S Vinod Kumar, 28, of Pettavaithalai in Trichy, M Subeer Ahamed, 37, of Thiruverumbur in Trichy, V Parthibaraj, 31, of Vazhappadi in Salem and B Praveen Kumar, 42, of Karnataka. Their associate Jayaprakash from Bengaluru fled.
In an official statement, superintendent of police V Varun Kumar stated that the eight individuals were nabbed by a specialised team following information received through the SP's helpline number 9487464651.
The team led by inspector C Dhayalan confiscated 21 gram of methamphetamine, sodium chloride solution, 10 syringes, 16 gram of gold coin, six mobile phones, a camera, two wallets, a modem and a vehicle.
Initial investigations revealed that the eight people became acquainted through an international homosexuality mobile application and developed drug addiction.
They procured and utilised drugs while engaging in homosexual activities amongst themselves, according to police. They consumed the substances and retained quantities for sale to others connected through the application for monetary gain. The drugs were couriered.
The police said that the group received drug supplies through an intermediary from Bengaluru.
The police said that half a gram of the substance, measured as 20 units, was being sold for Rs 10,000.
