PUDUCHERRY: An Oil and Natural Gas Corporation engineer from Trichy, who was duped of 28.05 lakh by an 11-member gang, including a former MLA and former director of government medical college, with the promise of a medical seat for his son, has appealed to the Lt Governor A K Singh for action against the accused and refund of his money.
C Rajendran in a memorandum to the Lt Governor said S Gnanamoorthy from Bahour, Puducherry, former director of Indira Gandhi government medical college cum research institute P Jeyakumar and former MLA K Deivanayagam and eight others promised a medical seat for his son in the government medical college for the academic year 2013-14 and extracted 26 lakh from him.
Two middlemen, who promised to arrange the seat, took 2 lakh.
He said he gave the money on different dates and original certificates of his son to them.
Soon he got back all the original certificates of his son, but the three cheques they gave him returned due to insufficient funds in the account. He approached Gnanamoorthy, who threatened to murder him.
The Puducherry police refused to register a case. He moved the Madurai bench of the Madras high court and successfully got a direction to Trichy crime branch to register a case against all the 11 accused.
Trichy crime branch registered cases against Gnanamoorthy, Jeyakumar and Deivanayagam, middlemen Shanmugam and Sriram, Jeyakumar's personal assistant Prasanth, a head of a department in the college Jothi Nirmala and a warden in the college, Gnanmoorthy's wife, his-sister-in law R Karpagavalli, police head constable and her husband Ramesh and a police constable for cheating and criminal intimidation.
"I wholeheartedly request your good office to take necessary action against the people booked by the police for their involvement in the fraudulent activities and ensure refund of the money soon," Rajendran appealed to the Lt Governor.
