DMK not a party to campaign between breaks: Udhay’s dig at TVK

Trichy: Deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a series of indirect attacks on TVK leader and actor Vijay, who is making his electoral debut in Trichy East as well as in Perambur, Chennai, while campaigning for Trichy East DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj on Saturday. Udhayanidhi remarked that the DMK is not a party that conducts election campaigns in between breaks.

"Some people have become tired just by taking breaks. But DMK, without getting tired, is meeting people on ground. For instance, even during the Covid-19 lockdown that saw the world coming to a grinding halt, our party workers risked their lives and helped people. But many are confined to their homes now," Udhayanidhi said while campaigning near Gandhi Market.


He told people that if they elect DMK's Inigo to the state assembly, Inigo will visit people at their doorstep, sharing both joy and sorrow. "Brother Inigo shall not ask you (people) to visit his house to help you. He will not do such acts and does not pursue work from home. He will serve as one of your family members," Udhayanidhi said.

"Inigo Irudayaraj has so many friends across Tamil Nadu, even in Chennai. He could have contested in multiple constituencies, but he preferred only Trichy East. He is confident of winning it, because he trusts the people," Udhayanidhi said.

If Trichy East elects Inigo by a margin of one lakh votes, Udhayanidhi said that he would urge the CM to allocate a ministerial berth for the MLA.

Meanwhile, while campaigning in Lalgudi constituency, Udhayanidhi criticised AIADMK candidate Leema Rose, wife of lottery baron Santiago Martin.

"Her family members have reserved a spot each in several parties. Their family's collective objective is to reintroduce lottery ticket business in Tamil Nadu and spoil people. She made a miscalculation, thinking that money power will win over Lalgudi people. You should give a decisive victory to our DMK candidate, in a manner, the opponent forfeits her deposit," Udhayanidhi said.

Later, he campaigned for Trichy West candidate K N Nehru and Thiruverumbur candidate Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
