Trichy: While most political parties are yet to commence campaigns and reach out to voters, since seat-sharing deals and candidates are not finalised, DMK's IT wing has been an early bird in launching its virtual campaign, promoting infrastructure projects completed and sanctioned in the last five years. Videos shared by IT wing functionaries through the party's constituency-specific social media handles highlight funds allocated for projects, including ongoing works, to strike a chord with urban voters, especially youth.
The IT wing said that listing constituency-specific infrastructure projects will be a key theme for its virtual campaign for the assembly election. Besides promoting state-wide schemes like monthly financial assistance for women under Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (KUMT) and free bus rides for women, DMK is publishing videos and posters on constituency-specific infrastructure projects, including solutions provided even for hyperlocal civic issues.
"Sharing key achievements in the last five years will be an important task online. We will target users on Facebook, Instagram, and platform X (formerly Twitter). Funds spent on such projects will be disclosed to downplay anti-incumbency claims," T Lakshmanan, DMK IT wing functionary from Srirangam, said. For Srirangam constituency, where sitting MLA M Palaniyandi is seeking a ticket to recontest, DMK has listed the satellite bus terminus and master plan development works at Vayalur Murugan temple as important projects implemented. DMK Trichy unit has also planned to promote Panjapur integrated bus terminus (KKBT), the state's second-largest and air-conditioned facility, through social media reels.
DMK IT wing has created dedicated handles prefixed or suffixed with the constituency's name to share video content. "We are promoting the two knowledge centres opened in Trichy city to support UPSC and TNPSC aspirants for competitive exams from rural areas. Every constituency will list such projects to seek support," A Govindasamy, party coordinator for Trichy West, said. Since several sitting MLAs in the central region, including ministers, are planning to recontest, DMK IT wing said that completed projects in their respective constituencies would play a role for candidates to approach the high command for a second chance to represent the constituency.
