TRICHY: A couple was seriously injured when crude oil bombs kept by unidentified miscreants went off in the house of their relative. Their rwo children escaped with minor injuries in the incident which occurred at Vaduvoor in Thiruvarur district early on Tuesday morning.
The seriously injured are a couple named Karunanidhi and Menaka Gandhi. The bomb went off as soon as they opened the door of the house when they returned at 2am after attending a wedding at Mannargudi.

The other injured are their children Udhayanidhi (15) and Nithyashree (13). The couple had left their children at the house of their relative Vijaykumar, 20, as they had to attend the wedding. The children were sleeping along with Vijaykumar when the incident occurred.
The miscreants are said to have planted four crude oil bombs in glass liquor bottles near the entrance of the house. They were triggered when the couple opened the door. Vijaykumar had left the door unlocked as the couple was expected to return late.
Glass shards pierced the body of the injured. Hearing the blast, villagers soon arrived at the spot and rescued the residents. The injured were admitted to Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital.
Mannargudi DSP Nagarajan arrived at the scene and inspected place. Vaduvoor police has registered a case and are investigating. The cause of the blast is unknown.
Inquiry with the family members has so far not provided any vital clues such as previous enmity, police sources said.
Karunanidhi runs an electronic shop.
