Trichy: A police station writer in Thanjavur has been placed under suspension for allegedly selling liquor bottles seized in earlier cases and stored at the station.
Police said a large quantity of liquor bottles had been seized during raids around 2020 in the Vallam police station limits and kept in custody. Recently, after obtaining a court order, officials began the process of destroying the seized stock.
During verification, around 300 bottles were found missing, and the matter was reported to superintendent of police E Sundaravathanam.
An inquiry revealed that Jayaguru, 45, then serving as a writer at Vallam police station, had allegedly sold the bottles to outsiders. He was transferred to the Armed Reserve on April 7 and later placed under suspension.
