Cookers meant for distribution seized

Karur: Election officials on Wednesday seized 52 cookers allegedly meant for distribution to voters in Puliyur village in Krishnarayapuram assembly constituency.Acting on a tip, the squad rushed to Puliyur, but those who were distributing cookers door-to-door abandoned them in an agricultural land and fled. The seized cookers were later loaded into a mini-van. DMK candidate in Krishnarayapuram (reserved) constituency is C K Raja while AIADMK has fielded Dr S Divya. Officials said the matter is under investigation to ascertain the source of the materials and those responsible for the distribution. In a related development, the flying squad reached Puravipalayam on receiving information that around 100 more cookers were being stored in a house. However, the officials could not find anything. There was a brief commotion in the locality, with some residents questioning the officials over the checks.
