Construction worker dies of electrocution, relatives protest

Trichy: A construction labourer was electrocuted while he was engaged in renovation work at a house in Trichy. Two others sustained minor injuries. According to police, the deceased was identified as David Reagan, a native of South Kattur area. He was a construction worker. He had gone to New Alpha Nagar in Karumandapam in the city for work on Monday. While working he encountered a live high-tension wire passing along the building and subsequently, he died of electrocution. On information, the Cantonment police conducted an inquiry and sent the body to the medical college hospital for postmortem. Reagan is survived by his wife and four girl children. CPI (M) cadres along with relatives held a protest in front of the hospital demanding solatium to the family members of the victim as they belong to the below poverty line. The protesters also accused the corporation officials who allowed to build houses below the high-tension live cables on the outskirts of the city. They demanded stern action against the erring officials immediately. Following that the GH police rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring to take necessary action.
