Congress party functionaries
and members in central region of
Tamil Nadu, on Thursday, condemned the BJP government for allegedly framing the former Union finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX FDI case after he was arrested on Wednesday.
In Trichy, the district secretaries of Trichy district Congress committee led their supporters to stage demonstration in front of their party office in Arunachala Mandram on Thursday.
The protesters raised slogans against the central government demanding Chidambaram to be released. They accused the central government of indulging in political vendetta against Chidambaram.
The city police deployed a large number of personnel to prevent any untoward incidents. However, a group of cadres attempted to burn the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the police foiled their attempt.
The demonstration was also held in front of head post office in Pudukkottai city. They desecrated the picture of the CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla. The police tried to prevent them but it led to minor scuffle. The police arrested 40 Congress members.
The Congress members in Karur also held the demonstration near RMS office in the city on Thursday. The rest of the districts in the central region also witnessed such demonstrations by Congress cadres against Chidambaram’s arrest.Congressmen
