College student assaulted, robbed by gang

Trichy: Police on Thursday booked a group of men on charges of attempting to murder and rob a college student in Trichy.Police said the victim, S Santhosh, from Allithurai in Srirangam was in a relationship with a girl. The relationship led to a dispute between Santhosh and Lokesh, an acquaintance of the victim.Around midnight on Wednesday, Santhosh was standing on Butterworth Road with his two-wheeler, police said. At that time, Lokesh, his friend Kaif and others confronted him and verbally abused him, demanding money from him. When Santhosh refused, the group abducted him at knife point with his vehicle. They then took Santhosh to a location near Samayapuram, where they removed his ornaments and made him transfer Rs 35,000 to them. They then assaulted Santhosh with a knife before letting him leave, police said.Santhosh suffered injuries on his head and was admitted to Trichy GH. On Thursday, he filed a complaint at the Fort police station. Police registered a case against the attackers under sections 296(b), 115(2), 137(2), 308(2), 109(1), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are on the lookout for them.
