Centres with high polling booths to be improved: Collector
Trichy: Trichy collector has directed officials to ensure the structural safety and availability of basic facilities at polling centres that have the highest number of polling booths in Srirangam and Trichy East assembly constituencies.According to sources, there are 14 such polling centres located in single premises with the highest concentration of polling booths. These include two centres in Srirangam constituency and 12 in Trichy East constituency.The polling centres in Srirangam comprise one arts and science college and one private matriculation higher secondary school. In Trichy East, the centres include eight private schools and four schools run by the corporation.On Feb 17, district collector and district election officer V. Saravanan, along with officials from various departments, conducted an on-site inspection of these premises.Following the inspection, Saravanan instructed the officials to take necessary steps to enhance the structural safety of the buildings, improve basic facilities, strengthen arrangements for voters, and ensure proper management of law and order aspects, sources said.
This initiative has been taken to prevent voters from facing long waiting times on polling day, facilitate quick and secure voting, enable effective queue management, verify the adequacy of basic facilities at polling centres, and maintain proper law and order arrangements.
