THANJAVUR: A house near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district was looted by miscreants, who decamped with gold ornaments weighing 28 sovereigns on Friday night. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
According to police, Manoharan, a native of Panthanallur near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur, is working in Southern Railway and his wife M Dhanalakshmi is a teacher.
Manoharan and his family members were asleep in one of the front rooms on Friday night when the incident reportedly took place.
Next morning, the family members noticed that their back door was broken. When Manoharan went to check the state of valuables that were kept inside one of the rooms, he found one of the almirahs broke open and gold ornaments weighing 28 sovereigns were found missing, he said to the police.
Manoharan informed Panthanallur police who rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry with the family members as well as their neighbours. Forensic experts were pressed into action to lift fingerprints of the miscreants.
