Bribery case: Trichy court sentences former treasury accountant to four years in jail
TRICHY: A Trichy court on Thursday sentenced a former accountant of sub-treasury office at Lalgudi to four years of imprisonment in a bribery case.
Special court for the Prevention of Corruption Act in Trichy convicted N Krishnamoorthy, 62, demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from retired physical education teacher S Nallaiyan in 2008.
The court ordered that Krishnamoorthy should undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 under the sections 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

The court also ordered him to undergo one year of rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 7 of PC Act.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (Trichy detachment), G Manikandan said on Thursday that Nallaiyan had been working as a physical education teacher at the government higher secondary school in Sirugambur. He approached the sub-treasury office to surrender his earned and unearned leaves in order to encash them.

On March 14, 2008, Krishnamoorthy demanded Rs 500 from Nalliayan to process his file. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Nallaiyan lodged a complaint with the DVAC on March 17, 2008. The police laid a trap. They caught Krishnamoorthy red-handed when Nalliayan gave him Rs 500.
