Trichy: Pragyan, the three-day annual international techno-management festival of National Institute of Technology-Trichy, came to an end on Sunday evening with Archana Sharma, senior scientist at CERN, lauding the tenacity and sincerity of the budding engineers for taking the event to new heights. The fest attracted a record number of students this year.

Speaking on his work pertaining to black holes and the Big Bang, scientist Abhas Mitra elaborated on how the existing theory on black holes can be disproved. He showed students how Albert Einstein's and Stephen Hawking's opinion about the non-existence of ideal black holes is true.

Director of NIT-T Sundarajan said that the fest has helped enhance students' capabilities much beyond academics. The fest gives students with innovative bent of mind a chance to interact with experienced members of the industry, and receive helpful insights from them, he said.

Later in the evening, Illuminati, India's only blacklight troupe, wowed audience with four acts, two TRON and two UV. While the LED acts were principally dance-oriented, the UV acts revolved around a skit which paid tributes to popular actors.

Another highlight of the day was the alumni debate 'Life at NIT Trichy: Then and now'. The panelists included Admiral Krishnan, Dr Mahendra Mohan, Bhuvan Gupta, M S Rachana Ramchand, Anurag Saxena and Bhuvan Gupta.

The participants debated on how the institute has evolved over the years in terms of interests and perspectives of the students and whether it was the NIT of the 70s, 80s, 90s or the 2000s which provided the best experience.
